APANEMIA TAVERNA Click here for pictures
Situated on the south coast of Crete by the Libyan sea, the taverna has five double (some are triple) rooms with en-suite facilities and air conditioning. Each room has a small balcony facing the sea. There is also a television and a refrigerator.
The rooms are priced from 25 Euro per night. Breakfast is served in the taverna below the rooms. The taverna also provides a comprehensive and economically priced menu of delicious traditional home made Cretan food served all day and evening.
The beach is mainly coarse sand; sun beds and umbrellas are there for the use of the taverna's patrons. The crystal clear waters, which are ideal for snorkelling, look out towards the Triopetra rocks and to the islands of Paximadia and Gavdos, Europe's most southerly point. The small village of Agios Pavlos is a couple of miles to the east and the lively port of Agia Galini is about 25 minutes drive away.
To get to Triopetra come from either Heraklion or Hania to Rethymno, then from Rethymno bypass take the road south towards Timbaki and Spili. You pass through Spili and then come to Akoumia, where you take a right turn signposted (not very obviously) to Triopetra through the rather narrow streets of Akoumia. After about 12 Kilometers take a sharp left turn which is signposted to Apanemia Taverna; it is also signed to Pavlos Taverna and the Yoga centre. After another couple of kilometres turn right at the T junction which takes you straight to Apanemia. Public transport would get you to Akoumia but after that it would be a Taxi.
